When I decided to put together a list of 16 films on gender-based violence, I thought it would be very difficult, and I would eventually have to cut the list short. It turned out to be very difficult indeed, but for the exact opposite reason. There are so many great films approaching gender-based violence from one way or another, that my difficulty was to actually keep it to 16.
So this is my list, which by no way means this are the 16 all-time best films on gender-based violence, but those are some of my favourites. Some I loved because of their beauty, others because of the power of the story or of a specific character, or because they inspired me in some way. It might even be the case that gender violence was not the main issue of the film, but it was my personal reading of it. They are in no particular order, I am just listing them as they come to my mind.
